News from Witherslack
Witherslack Hall Estate sits on the edge of the Winster Valley in Southern Lakeland. Bordered to the west by the river Winster and to the East by Whitbarrow Scar, this 800 hectare estate comprises the largest area of semi natural woodland in Cumbria.
Run as part of the estate, Witherslack Woodlands manages 300 hectares of this land in accordance with the highest conservation standards set by the Forestry Commission and Butterfly Conservation. A large proportion of our woods here are Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). They require careful and sensitive management to protect some of our most endangered and valuable species. We are proud of our efforts in conservation, and work hard to preserve the natural heritage of this area.
Founded in 1990, Witherslack Woodlands began as a small company formed initially to supply tenants of the estate with firewood for their homes. Since then our operations have expanded; we are now one of the leading suppliers of high quality, sustainable firewood in the South Lakes. Our successes in both conservation and our more recent investments in biomass, have cemented our reputation as a leading forestry enterprise in the area.
